As a recent college graduate, it's difficult to argue that you have more experience and knowledge than someone in their 40s or 50s. However, you may just have a case if you are talking about social media.
Whether it's a small business, a non-profit or a Fortune 500 company, every organization is at a disadvantage without an effective social media strategy. As a Millennial, you should take advantage of being a member of the first generation to have Facebook and Twitter accounts!
Most of us have more years of social media experience than anyone. The more you can polish your social media skills and expand your new media knowledge, the more marketable you will be.
For instance, I started up Millennial New Media to turn my social media skills and the new media/social media marketing strategy I developed with a colleague of mine into a profit-making venture! Who's to say you can't do the same?
Think about how you can use your social media skills on behalf of an employer so that he or she can reach and engage their target audience on a continual basis. After all, simply creating a social networking account does not motivate customers to visit a social networking page. Without successfully directing traffic to a social networking page, an account (for marketing purposes) is useless.
Social media is the ideal opportunity to gain customers, supporters and/or advocates. As a Millennial, YOU possess the necessary keys to unlock that opportunity for an employer.
